VIRTUAL COMPANY
s/t

Simon H. Fell : double bass. Mark Wastell : violoncello, percussion. Derek Bailey : (virtual) guitar. Will Gaines : (virtual) tapdance. Recorded at Cafe OTO, Dalston, London; 2nd March 2018. An in concert, virtual Company performance from IST (on this occasion the duo of Simon H. Fell and Mark Wastell due to the snow-bound absence of Rhodri Davies) together with pre-recorded fragments of Derek Bailey and Will Gaines. IST’s Virtual Company calls on ‘the powers of improvisation’ (D. Bailey) to interface with the two musicians of IST with dozens of musical fragments drawn from both Bailey and Gaines performing solo. These are combined with sections of silence of unforeseeable length, and then combined with each other and the live musicians, all by means of random algorithms which will ensure that each performance will be both unpredictable and unrepeatable. IST, Derek and Will performed together regularly in the later half of the 1990’s and early 2000’s - Derek curated various Company events in London, Marseille and New York which sometime featured this group exclusively and, on occasions, other musicians. The quintet concerts from Marseille in 1999 (although performed under the short-lived group name cavanoconner) were eventually released as a double cd on Incus, Company In Marseille (Incus 44/45). To add to this crucial document, Confront Recordings released Derek Bailey And Company - Klinker, another double cd set, recorded on a hot and steamy night in August 2000 at The Klinker in London and which featured the quartet of Bailey, Gaines, Fell and Wastell.

Stéphane ROY
“L’inaudible”

In my approach to composition, the path a piece will take is never determined upfront. Form and structure do not exist prior to the realization of the piece: when I probe the imaginary world, indeterminacy is my modus operandi. This approach begins with observations and explorations of sonic materials usually drawn from acoustic sources. As any good plastic artist, I explore every nook and cranny of this material: I knead it, chisel it, scratch it, cut it and colour it, until the material acts as a catalyst that reveals underground meanings. Through what I call “transcendent listening,” my explorations push me to neutralize the sediments of accrued meanings (the nature of reduced listening), allowing me to be on the lookout for deep-running trends that run through “unconscious space.” "Maelström" (2014-16), "Train d’enfer" (2010-11), "Les aurores pourpres" (2017-19), "Les territoires secrets" (2008, 19), "Voies crépusculaires" (2013-14). Stéphane Roy is an acousmatic composer. His art esthetics allow him, after thorough experimentations with sound materials, to extract expressive properties and give these works teleological motion. He is also a musicologist. He has written a number of papers and a book on the analysis of electroacoustic music.

Elsa JUSTEL
“Yegl”

“The electroacoustic works of Elsa Justel are striking for their rich morphological invention: canvases made of minuscule yet consistently varied sounds; stratified figures made of multiple simultaneous shots, intertwining with one another; tremblings turning into sharp and lightning objects; objects of all sizes, objects so diverse they relentlessly keep hold of your attention. […] This music imitates nothing; it is there, warm and savant, controlled yet free, vigorous and intelligent.” Horacio Vaggione "Cercles et surfaces" (2012), "L" (2003), "La radio, ça détend" (2001), "Marelle ou Les instants de la vie" (2017), "Purzelbäume" (2002-03), "Tapage nocturne" (2015), "Yegl" (2006-07). Born in 1944 in Mar del Plata (Argentina), Elsa Justel obtained a Professor Diploma in Music Education and Choral conducting at the Conservatory of Mar del Plata. She studied composition at the University of Rosario with Virtú Maragno and electroacoustic music in Buenos Aires with José Maranzano and Francisco Kröpfl. In 1998 she moves to France where she graduated with a Doctorate in Esthetics, Sciences and Technologies of Arts at the Université de Paris VIII, under the direction of Horacio Vaggione. Elsa Justel has also realized audiovisual projects and music for films and the stage.

Todor TODOROFF
“Univers parallèles”

"The work of Todor Todoroff might be a bit closer to architecture and structural engineering than to conventional electro-acoustic composition. Almost all of the pieces on Univers parallèles are based on gestures and movements which create a sound, whether that’s a dancer on stage doing avant-garde steps, or a painter applying the brush to the canvas, or the action of flowing water. From quite small and intimate movements, large-scaled and mysterious sounds emerge. On Rupture d’équilibre, one of the more dramatic pieces here, it’s done by a pendulum swinging back and forth — or at any rate, a virtual pendulum. Rather than rig up an old grandfather clock, as you or I might have tended to do, Todoroff elected to created a simulation of a pendulum and “played” it like an instrument in a set-up that also included potentiometers (instrument of choice in Stockhausen’s electronic experiments). Interesting methods for sure, though the transformations and distortions that result are not especially bold or unusual, and I found the compositions to be very shapeless and uncertain. However, this Belgian composer has a knack of sometimes turning that uncertainty into intrigue and mystery." Ed Pinsent, The Sound Projector, January 2020. "Dédales" (2008), "Matières" (2003), "Solo feu" (2001), "Obsession" (1991), "Rupture d’équilibre" (1993, 95, 97), "Requiem for a City" (2015, 16, 17). Todor Todoroff graduated in civil engineering, with a specialization in telecommunications, from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB, Brussels, Belgium) in 1987. First a researcher in the field of speech analysis and synthesis at the Laboratoire de phonétique expérimentale (Laboratory of Experimental Phonetics) at the ULB. Alongside this work and within the context of ARTeM (Art, recherche, technologie et musique [Art, Research, Technology, and Music]), since 1993 he has been developing interactive systems for studio environments, concerts, sound installations and dance performances which explore the possibilities of a wide variety of sensors. His electroacoustic music demonstrates a special interest in multichannel composition and the use of space, as well as in experimenting with new methods of interaction and sound transformation, where gesture plays an important role. He revisits the concept of the séquence-jeu (play-sequences associated with specific gestures) in the digital domain, in order to achieve a greater degree of expressivity.

Jean-Luc GUIONNET / LUNAR ERROR
“Plafond de verre”

Lunar Error is a group of musicians based in Lille. They work in the field of drone, continuum but mainly acoustic. After Sêlêne published in 2017 on the same label, they decided to work with Jean-Luc Guionnet who, here, considers contemporary composition for ensemble as a work both plastic and reflexive, using drawing, writing, typography, diagram, plan, non-idiomatic notation, questions of musical writing, interpretation, as well as individual and collective playing techniques, up to the sound system and diffusion. A plunge into an extended sound where micro-variations and frequency beats play the race with metamorphosed spaces. Gabriel Lemaire, baryton saxophone. Matthieu Lebrun, bass clarinet. Quentin Biardeau, tenor saxophone. Quentin Conrate, percussions. Florian Satche, percussions. François Ella-Meyé, piano. Pierre Denjean, electric guitar. Léo Rathier, electric guitar, banjo. Paul Ménard, electric guitar. Thomas Coquelet, synth, 4 tracks cassette. Lucien Rapilly, pure data. Jean-Luc Guionnet, composition. Éric LA CASA
“Intérieurs”

What characterises my inner sound environment? What relationships do I have with reality, inside? To answer these questions, I have chosen three striking interiors from the last ten years. Firstly, in my apartment, following Paris. I highlighted liminal phenomena, making them events in their own right, bringing them out of the inaudible. Then, in an artist's studio, behind closed doors, I followed her painting process to attempt to grasp the persistence and resonance of her creative gesture. Finally, in a museum, I amplified the background air-conditioning of the empty spaces to render audible the specific qualities of this monumental architecture, dedicated to the containment of its collection. Xavier CHARLES – Bertrand GAUGUET
“Spectre”

Xavier Charles, clarinet (acoustic & amplified). Bertrand Gauguet, alto saxophone (acoustic & amplified). "[...] this is some very radical music. It is mostly about playing lengthy sustaining passages in which the amplification can seem to take over from the actual playing. However, that said, this is not about total feedback, noise or distortion. Charles and Gauguet maintain a strong level of control over their work, in which they can easily play for a few minutes very quietly and yet one feels a lot of tension between the players. Everything seems to be about this level of control. Each of the six pieces is carefully played out and most of the times it didn't seem like two amplified wind instruments; it could have been some amplified string objects, but not with a lot of reverb. It doesn't sound like a long string instrument. When you play this loud, the sound will be overwhelming and an attack on the ears, but at a moderate level seems to bring out some equally great beauty, without being such a burden upon the listener." Pascal COMELADE – Marc HURTADO
“Larme secrète”

Pascal Comelade was born in Montpellier, France. After living in Barcelona for several years, he made his first album, under the name of Fluence, influenced by electronic music and by the group Heldon. Since 1980 Comelade releases music under his own name. Ever since, his music has become more acoustic and is often characterised by the sounds of toy instruments, used as solo-instruments or as an integral part of the sound of his group, the Bel Canto Orchestra. Marc Hurtado is one half of the experimental French duo Étant Donnés. Active since the end of the 1970s, the group has released several albums, also collaborating with people like Alan Vega, Lydia Lunch, Michael Gira or Genesis P-Orridge. Hurtado has also released several solo albums under his own name, again collaborating with various artists, and has toured with Lydia Lunch celebrating the music of Suicide. Larme Secrete is the first time that Comelade and Hurtado have collaborated. Larme Secrete is the sound of an electric shock , the sound of two hearts beating at the same rhythm, united in the pulsating and hypnotic music of Pascal Comelade melted in the fire of the celestial poems of Marc Hurtado. Synthesizers, guitars, drums, organ, piano, sound loops, whispering, flying, screaming voices transport you in a blazing sonic dream."

SEMANTICS (ROTHENBERG / SHARP / BENNETT)
“Semantics”

Semantics was a jazz supergroup consisting of Elliott Sharp, Ned Rothenberg and Samm Bennett. Elliott Sharp, born in Ohio in 1951, began playing the piano at the age of six and started to perform concerts two years later. He soon gave up the piano, first in favour of the clarinet and later for the guitar. Sharp became intrigued with all types of experimental music, from contemporary classical to free jazz and sophisticated rock. He studied anthropology at Cornell University, where he played in a band and took an electronics class with synthesizer inventor Robert Moog. Ned Rothenberg is an American multi-instrumentalist who was born in 1956 in Massachusetts. He has been internationally acclaimed for both his solo and ensemble music, presented for the past 33 years on 5 continents. He performs primarily on alto saxophone, clarinet, bass clarinet, and the shakuhachi - an endblown Japanese bamboo flute. His solo work utilizes an expanded palette of sonic language, creating a kind of personal idiom all its own. Samm Bennett was born in 1957 in Alabama. In 1977 he moved to Boston, a town that seemed to offer broader possibilities for a young musician eager to play and grow and try new things. It was there that he was first exposed to African drumming styles, mostly through attending weekly drum ensemble workshops led by Boston underground percussion legend Syd Smart. In late 1980, he went to Nigeria, West Africa. Traveling with a friend who introduced him to a family in Benin City, Nigeria, he remained there as their guest for six months, making daily trips to the home of drum master Idemudia Izevbihen. Later Bennett lived in Brussels and played many solo shows. The short lived Semantics were active in the middle of the 1980s and released two albums. The self-titled debut has so far never been released on CD. It is a masterpiece of contemporary jazz with a rock attitude added for good measure.

OFFICER!
“Yes Yes No No Yes No Yes”

Officer! was founded by Londoner Mick Hobbs. His roots were in the Rock In Opposition scene of the late 70s and early 80s. Initially he worked as guitarist in The Work, subsequently he became closely associated with This Heat and their Cold Storage Studio in Brixton, working with artists like Family Fodder, Catherine Jauniaux or Zeena Parkins. The band's first album "8 New Songs By Mick Hobbs" came out in 1982 on casette only. It was followed by the second album, "Ossification". The third album, "Cough" was recorded and released in France in 1985. It is often overlooked in the band's discography, a fate that many cassette releases share. "8 New Songs By Mick Hobbs" and "Cough" have been collected to form the CD "Earlier Music", which is also available from Klanggalerie. "Yes Yes No No Yes No Yes " was the band's fourth album and came out as a vinyl LP in 1988, released by the band themselves. It was recorded in France and England between 1986 and 1988. Performing on the album are Antoine Gindt, Bill Gilonis, Claudia Schmid, Daniel Koskowitz, Felix Fiedorowicz, Keisuke Matsui and of course Mick Hobbs. Hobbs is a songwriter with a gift for plangent melody, ingenious arrangement and lyrics at once caustic and courtly, playful and profound.

Asmus TIETCHENS
“Linea +”

Asmus Tietchens is a sound artist and composer from Hamburg, Germany. He got interested in Musique Concrete by listening to a German radio programme when he was 10 years old. In 1965, at the age of 18, Asmus started experimenting with tape loops and turned them into musical collages. Soon, the use of synthesizers was added. In 1980 his debut album Nachtstücke was released, produced by Peter Baumann of Tangerine Dream. This was soon followed by a series of albums of electronic pop music for the Sky label, home of many Krautrock bands. Tietchens often uses special source materials for his compositions such as water (Seuchengebiete), human voices (Von Mund zu Mund), paper (Papier ist geduldig). He is associated with the Industrial music scene through his collaborations and releases on labels such as United Dairies, Esplendor Geometrico or Dom Records. Tietchens never studied composition, he has no academic background, everything he does is self taught or learnign by doing. Nevertheless, he was professor for sound design in Hamburg in recent years. Linea was originally released on cassette on Dutch Korm Plastics label, later re-issued as a CDR in 1999. It is one of Tietchens's most minimal compositions, and has a special place in our music hearts here at Klanggalerie. For our new edition, Asmus Tietchens has dug deep into his archive and unearthed two further Linea pieces that have so far never seen the light of day.

Alvin LUCIER
“String noise”

Continuing Black Truffle's series of releases documenting the recent work of legendary American experimental composer Alvin Lucier, String Noise presents three major works for violin solo and duo composed between 2004 and 2019. Lucier has developed his compositions in close collaboration with many instrumentalists over the years; the three works presented here are performed by the violinists for whom they were originally written, Conrad Harris and Pauline Kim Harris, who together make up the innovative violin duo String Noise, and have premiered works by a plethora of major figures in contemporary music. The long-form compositions presented here continue Lucier's life-long exploration of acoustic phenomena, drawing on aspects of some of his most well-known compositions and extending them into new instrumentation. Tapper (2004) extends the experiments with echolocation – gathering information about an environment by listening to the echoes of sounds produced within it – that Lucier began with his classic 1969 work Vespers, where performers explore a space equipped with hand-held pulse oscillators. Here, the same principle is put into practice for solo violin, the body of which the performer taps repeatedly with the butt end of the bow while moving around the performance space. The result is a subtly shifting web of echoes and resonances produced by the reflection of the sharp tap off the surfaces of the room (in this case, the Drawing Center in New York). In Love Song (2016), two violinists are connected by a long wire stretched between the bridges of their instruments, causing the sounds played on one violin to also be heard through the other. As the two violinists play long tones using only the open E string, they move in a circular motion around the performance space, thus changing the tension of the wire, which creates a remarkable array of variations in pitch and timbre ranging from ghostly wavering pitches reminiscent of a singing saw to near-electronic tones. In Halo (2019), one or more violinists walk slowly through the performance space in a zig-zag pattern while sustaining long tones. As in Tapper, the consistent sound production reveals the sonic properties of the environment. As the title of the piece suggests, the outcome is a shimmering halo of sound produced by the reflection of the violin's extended tones off the walls and ceiling of the performance space (in this case, Alvin's home). 2CD release presented in a deluxe 4-panel digipak with liner notes by Alvin Lucier, live images and artist bios. Sleeve design by Lasse Marhaug. Mastered by Tom Hamilton.

"We somehow tried to use sounds as idioms. Turning them upside down and back again, make them collide with each other's distorted mirror image, let them mean everything one would usually not think them to mean. "Careta" meaning someone who acts like someone they are not. A sound, in music, usually one would say doesn't mean anything, but the sound of the word "word" does (if you have learned English). But, a collaboration allows to pretend it would mean something else and language is but a collaboration, words and meanings have to be shared to exist. Maybe to craft their own little world." FOSSIL AEROSOL MINING PROJECT
“Scaath Catfish”

Songs about the river are a common trope in the history of music. Psalms of being cleansed, being baptized, being redeemed. There are ballads of murder, lost love, jealousy, and all sorts of rank human emotion reflected in the surface of the water. Respect, praise, and worship of the river are other themes often channeled through music as well. Even in the realm of ambient music, digital mimesis of the aquatic is commonplace. Fossil Aerosol Mining Project, in their ongoing archaeological approach to a post-industrial sound design, offers their own variant on this topic with considerable differences. It is not only the sediment, the debris, the waste, the scum, the mud, and the rot that are the source materials in Scaath Catfish, but also what is preserved in those elements and new forms of life fostered in this conceptual framework. Sibilant mutations from Fossil Aerosol's multiple sources (field recordings, found sounds, etc.) spill forth as dilated tones, mesmerizing echos, clattering loops, and harmonic distortions. Floods of dense sonic accretion give way to languid mirages with human intervention complicating matters. Fossil Aerosol gives a preternatural language to the river, one that parallels their occasional collaborators in :zoviet*france: as well as the environmental ruminations of Biospshere and the practitioners of power ambient (Rafael Anton Irisarri, Fennesz, Tim Hecker, etc.).

Press: "four sprawling tracks of ominous, atmospheric music that ranges from eerily dissonant to noisily disturbing. LAST DREAM OF THE MORNING

John Butcher: tenor & soprano saxophones, John Edwards: double bass, Mark Sanders: percussion. THE LAST DREAM OF THE MORNING is the new band from three UK masters of contemporary improvised music – they released a trio cd under this title on Relativ Pitch (NYC) in 2017, now choosing it for their bandname for continuing activities. Recorded live at Cafe Oto, August 2018 Press: This is a very worthwhile record that I've listened to repeatedly since it's release. If you haven't heard their debut it's also very much worth picking up as well if you enjoy this one. All of the best qualities of the musicians involved are fully demonstrated throughout, never a lag, never a misstep, and never a dull moment. I look forward to more releases from this finely tuned, explosive trio. Really great music, highly recommended. - Nick Metzger, FreeJazzBlog

Matt SHOEMAKER
“Mercurial Horizon”

Previously unheard brilliance from the late Matt Shoemaker. Work on "Mercurial Horizon" was largely completed during an incredibly fruitful period from 2008-2012, during which Shoemaker produced albums for The Helen Scarsdale Agency, Ferns Recordings, Mystery Sea, and Elevator Bath. He went on to finalize the material which would become "Mercurial Horizon" in 2015. Though unreleased until some five years after completion, "Mercurial Horizon" is undeniably a fully-formed declaration; a meticulously crafted display of layered grotesqueries, as elegant as it is disturbing. This is classic Shoemaker at his most mesmeric: elongated metallic resonances, metamorphosed field recordings, expertly harnessed modular electronics... These elements may seem familiar, but Shoemaker's strange magic lay in his ability to imbue these disparate pieces with a kind of natural tension, fusing them into a seamless puzzle. The results are both startling and beautiful, and always with a tangible sense of unease. "Mercurial Horizon" may well be the last new music to emerge from Matt Shoemaker's extraordinary aesthetic. It is an assemblage to be explored, interpreted, and treasured. "Mercurial Horizon" is released as a compact disc by Elevator Bath in an edition of 200 copies. Matt Shoemaker's probing and mysterious ice photography graces the six-panel digipak, inside and out.

Clément EDOUARD
“Dix ailes”

Dix Ailes is a musical proposal for 2 female voices, 1 percussionist, 1 electronic device and 1 place with high reverberation. Between minimalist music and pure pop, Dix Ailes plays on an acoustic illusion, that of making indistinguishable the origin of the sound (instrumental, loudspeaking or architectural), based on work on harmonics, frequency vibrations, the physical resonance of the place, psycho-acoustics. Essentially centered on the voice, Dix Ailes addresses the notions of empty and full, of internal listening and silence, of liminarity and transformation. By a principle of initial composition based on symbols and archetypes, the music of Dix Ailes echoes universal rituals and myths, and shares with them a language that tempts to escape the sequences of rational logic, and thus to open up to an contemporary poetic landscape, made of archaic and invisible. Ollivier COUPILLE
“Fragments & Ramifications”

Fragments were recorded in 2019 in Piémont-Cévenol and Ramifications in Paris in 2017. Ollivier Coupille participated in the workshops of Takehisa Kosugi at Sainte Baume in 1979 and 1980 as well as in several of his concerts. Since then he has developed a unique approach to sound connecting circuits and setting up electronic music-making devices. He is using a branch of technology that had developed haphazardly — without music theory — and that seemed to reproduce certain aspects of living things — such as moss and lichen. In Fragments several oscillators that generate sounds are interconnected inside a constantly evolving electronic “loom.” And Ramifications can only be performed in daylight, as the sound generators are powered by solar cells and natural variations of light play an important role in the process.

Anthony LAGUERRE – Jérôme NOETINGER
“DnT”

The album ‘DnT’ shows a collaboration that shares pure rock energy and electroacoustic manipulation, amplified drums and distorted tape, feedback and re-injection, live processing and diversion. A large tape loop was also set up on two supplementary reel-to-reel tape recorders to create a random memory, delayed and unstable, acting like a distorting mirror. This recording is the result of two days’ work at Centre Culturel André Malraux de Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy, France, in July 2018. Anthony Laguerre : drums, voice, contact mic, mouth organ. Jérôme Noetinger : tape recorders Revox B77, electronics. CD + poster.

UN DRAME MUSICAL INSTANTANÉ
“L’homme à la caméra / La glace à trois faces”

"Un Drame Musical Instantané were founded in 1976, featuring Jean-Jacques Birgé, Bernard Vitet and Francis Gorgé. Their aim was to promote collective musical creation, co-signing their albums, which they consider as artworks in themselves, or their live shows which they tried to renew every time they played. Their sound was created with many influences: rock; jazz, and classical modern music; as well as movies or world news; they were the first in France to give a new impetus to live music on silent movies. After having improvised freely for many years, they led a fifteen-piece orchestra from 1981 to 1986, and from 1989 onwards they produced multimedia shows (live video remix on a giant screen, fireworks, choreographies). Still their music was the most important technique, they called their recordings 'blind cinema'. The Drame used to mix acoustic and electronic instruments in real time as well as original instruments built by Vitet (a reed trumpet, a multiphonic French horn, a variable tension double-bass, a giant balafon with frying pans and flower pots keyboard, a fire organ, plexiglas flutes, etc.). After Francis Gorgé left the band in 1992, Birgé and Vitet went on recording and producing with other musicians close to the 'family' such as percussionist, Gérard Siracusa, or multi-instrumentalist, Hélène Sage. Un Drame Musical Instantané always remained independent (they always owned their own recording studio and record label GRRR) and stopped its activities in 2008, with Birgé being the only one active until this day. L'Homme À La Caméra was originally released on GRRR in 1984 and features 15 musicians. In addition to the original album, we offer you a whole new section of previously unreleased music from the time entitled La Glace A Trois Faces which is another soundtrack to a silent movie from 1927."

Massimo TONIUTTI
“Variation séculaire géomagnétique (Antidocument/Groundwork)”

"Massimo Toniutti is an Italian sound designer and experimental musician. He is the brother of Giancarlo Toniutti who is best known for his dark ambient masterpiece La Mutazione which was originally released on the Broken Flag label in the UK and later reissued by Klanggalerie. Massimo started working with sound when he was a teenager, collecting and playing recordings of all kinds. In th 1980s he released four cassettes on his own label, all heavily influenced by the experimental musis scene of that time. He soon developped a strong relation to electroacoustic structures, space/environment and silence. In the 1990s, he began investigating radio, creating his own sound archive and producing unusual broadcasts. He released an album entitled Il Museum Selvatico, which was reissued in Australia in 2018 on Oren Ambarchi's label Black Truffle. A documentation of his radio work can be heard on the CD Le Gabbiette Di Faraday, collecting radio pieces from 1996 to 1998. After a twenty year break, the cassette Antidocument/Groundwork was released in 2016 in a tiny edition of only 100 copies. Klanggalerie asked Massimo Toniutti to reissue this composition on CD to which he agreed. When work was started, Massimo decided to extend it to a much longer piece which became Variation Séculaire Géomagnétique. if you are into Musique Concrete, Dark Ambient or simply beautifully crafted atmospheric music, then this release is for you."

Brunhild FERRARI – Eiko ISHIBASHI – Jim O’ROURKE
“L’Oreille Voleuse”

Persistence of Sound releases a new work by Brunhild Ferrari called »L’oreille Voleuse« (The Thieving Ear). The LP features an extraordinary live reinterpretation by Eiko Ishibashi and Jim O’Rourke, recorded in October 2025 in Paris. “No, without listening at doors, the ear captures noises here and there and unexpected sounds without choice, but remains attentive to the messages of each one picked up over the years. It gathers surprises and impressions, bringing them together in a simple mix. In waking up these ear memories again, which were mostly recorded on magnetic tapes, I am very happy about the collaboration of Eiko Ishibashi and Jim O'Rourke in playing on this mix tape.” Brunhild Ferrari

FRANCE
“Good Thoughts, Bad Thoughts”

Good Thoughts, Bad Thoughts captures the band in full flight during their very first English tour, recorded at The state51 Factory in East London. Until this tour, UK audiences had only witnessed France once before, at Liverpool Psych Fest some years back. This album documents what they've been missing. For this performance, the lineup featured Jérémie Sauvage on bass, Yann Gourdon on electrified hurdy-gurdy, and Cyril Bondi (La Tène, Cyril Cyril) stepping in on drums while longtime member Mathieu Tilly took a well-earned break.

Thomas TILLY
“Birds measuring space”

As a counterpoint to discourses about sound in nature, french sound artist Thomas Tilly continues his research on the use of noise by non humans. Following the noise walls of Codex Amphibia, Birds measuring space focuses on the strange rituals operating by the mysterious Guacharos de Cuevas, and its interpretation by humans and technology. Thomas Tilly (FR) is a sound artist and composer of experimental music. His work is based on field experiments using microphones, loudspeakers, and acoustic analysis instruments. Developing a unique approach to phonography, influenced by biology, anthropology, and sound measurement, his creations, broadcasts, and installations open up a field of listening that extends beyond the naturalist paradigm.
