Charlemagne PALESTINE
“Arpeggiated Bösendorfer + Falsetto Voice”
In 1974 Ileana Sonnabend commissioned Charlemagne Palestine to create a limited edition 2 LP in conjunction with a performance to celebrate the opening of her new Soho gallery at 420 West Broadway!
Charlemagne made several recording attempts, first at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania where they had a Bösendorfer Imperial Piano in their theatre. He recorded “Bösendorfer + Voice”, “Voice Piece” as well as some Bösendorfer tests with Mayo Thompson as producer and Kurt Munkacsi as sound engineer. These ecstatic Swarthmore recordings, recorded late at night in the big empty theatre space represented the original elements on which Charlemagne Palestine later created the piano pieces for “Four Manifestations on Six Elements”.
For more than forty years since these recordings were made Palestine never went back to listen to them, but recently on re-listening to these Swarthmore recordings with alga marghen he found several blissful arpeggiated piano and falsetto voice studies which he feel now deserve to be heard.
Included in the alga marghen VocSon series, this LP is available now in an edition limited to 405 copies.

Philip CORNER
“Battutosso – Bone pulse (and other nature musics)”
Philip Corner (b. 1933) studied composition with Henry Cowell and Otto Luening and musical analysis with Oliver Messiaen. During the 1960s and 70s he was an active member of Fluxus, a founder (along with James Tenney and Malcolm Goldstein) of the Tone Roads Chamber ensemble, the resident musician and composer for the Judson Dance Theatre, and co-founder of Gamelan Son Of Lion (with Barbara Benary and Daniel Goode).
"Battutosso" presents four previously unpublished compositions by Philip Corner, recorded in various locations. The first one is a very hypnotic and beating piece recorded in July, 1989: Philip Corner has used some bones to create his percussive and pulsating piece. The second track recorded with bells creates a “liquid” sound, recorded in Zouz (western Alps) in July 1992, with Kurt Hofer (the cowherd) and Laura Donnelly as dancer. The first track on Side B has a noisy background with a natural flute played by Kurt Hofer. The fourth and last track was a short piece recorded at Caterina Gualco’s “Genova - Expo” (July, 1997) with Geoff Hendricks’ xylophone sculpture. Edition of 300 copies.

“OM Entering. and Once Enterd”
Kye is proud to announce the release of “OM Entering. and Once Enterd”, the latest LP from veteran fluxus composer Philip Corner. “OM Entering. and Once Enterd” comprises four previously unreleased recordings with the Barton Workshop, taken from performances in the Netherlands, and South Korea, between 2000-2007.
“Om Entrance” which one does.... because the performance is a real “passage from the material to the spiritual” unless the “real” world is just as spiritual already which i like to think it is. As perhaps an everyday awareness is already to be entranced which i have been told it is, really. To the facts: musicians’ coming-in already the performance of everything has to be done to get ready from unpacking to tuning and all that is done in the concentrated and exalted spirit of real music. Multiplicity moves noise to instrument possibilities with virtuosity show-offs slowing down to a perfect tuning in a quiet circle from where there is nowhere else to go but the sustaining of a quiet long tone.
My old friend and colleague also great composer Jim Fulkerson is there as he has be, as he was even at the first performance way back must be almost 50 years by now joining the Creative Associates at the University of Buffalo on his initiative as likewise these performances in Holland with his group he calls The Barton Workshop and for sure he is there playing trombone too.
The movement from Sang/Teh (Situations). Guard duty in a cold Korean winter. This piece was a major turning-point in my work. My life too you-could-say. “Of Ancient Times and Modern Sounds” i wrote then: a better world---much much better---than being in the American Army. The heterophonic melody-only texture learned from their “Ah Ahk” court music (“Soo Je Chun” the most beautiful music in the history of the world!) imposed on a thoroughly modern chromatic note structure. Occidental instruments absorbing the traditions of subtle sound colours so-long absent from the West.
Public performance in Seoul. That must have been the Spring of 1961 just before they “shipped me out”, to bring all that back home.
Before that the wonderful and exceptional opportunity to “run through” some of it with the indigenous instruments of the Koog Ahk Wun (National Music Institute) thanks to the cultural open-mindedness of the classical kayageum master Byungki Hwang. And Jim has not only played the 3rd movement often, but brought if back to Korea once at the Pan Music Festival. But my long-waiting-for performance in Korea on native instruments has yet to take place.
The Chopin Prelude piece is one of two, reworking passages from his D Major Prelude for piano, and a part of the “as a revelation” series which “looks into” moments from the classics which usually go by too fast. Begun with Mozart, the series has “got a lot of mileage” out of Satie, as well as including Buxtehude, Bach, Rimsky-Korsakoff, Verdi, Ives, Berlioz, and others.” (Philip Corner, 2015)

Beam Splitter (Audrey Chen and Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø) is a duo for amplified voice and trombone.
Beam Splitter’s debut album “Rough Tongue” on Corvo Records is one part, a timbral collage of carefully extracted sound material and in another, a longer moment taken from an intimate room below the din.
All tracks are taken from three live concerts in 2016. Utilizing the pure sounds of acoustic and closely amplified trombone and voice, the record exemplifies the joining together of these two individual voices into a distinct dialog that delves beyond the borders of the corporeal elements of extended technique and sound.
There is an intimacy and conflict that becomes evident as the two personas intertwine, in moments joining together seamlessly and in the next, being left with the feeling of irrevocable fracture. The two manage between these extremes with a kind of improvised grace that reveals an effort towards a common goal. It is an honest metaphor for human relationship in process that even in the most serene moments can leave one raw and entirely exposed.

“Recorded during a recent trek to the Pacific Northwest, this session is very damaged by the post-tongue explosive devices packed by each of the quartet’s members. Skittering along the most devious edge of improvisational madness, Greg, Greg, Bill and Mr. Shoup bring four chunks of deep underground moisture into the air for the first time. Let us make to examine them.
“Morning” greets the listener beneath a raucous grackle filled tree, mounting to a commuters’ rage. Then along comes a mage with mushrooms, and the growl and rasp spreads out into what one must imagine a stoned rabbit’s brain records from a dawn.
In “Separating a door from a window”, Mr. Shoup’s sax limns the wall of sound into permeable spaces. The horns and percussion throw up bramble hollers of humorous squawk, but in the end, Wally is triumphant.
Like smoke snaking over the door, “Transom” is a very present and seductive piece. If you are a programmer, this is an excellent sound experience to loop, as it is both loving and bossy.
Horn and reed lead you into ‘Nothing is deprived of its warmth,’ and then gleefully pierce your eardrums with needles. Once the path has been cleared to your brain, molten notes are poured in and, like a Dead Head prostrate with his pipe, you become one with the universe. A warm universe.

“Gates and Variations rounds out a loose trilogy of records by Jake Meginsky for Open Mouth. Not an intended trilogy on Jakes part but it has become one to my mind. It has come to be how I listen to them and experience them, all informing each other, echoing and challenging each other and growing into each others space and light like a garden of plants that would never actually coexist anywhere in reality. Jake is always tirelessly reaching for something new yet I’d avoid using the word progression here. It instead feels to me like the last piece of a puzzle, or of a world created by some Jack Kirby demigod. Something has been completed and now all the pieces are interchangeable. The first can go last. The middle can be first. The whole thing becoming a universe looping in on itself with a multitude of entry points and not a lot of exits. These are dense environments where sections can move from microscopic to macroscopic, day to night and back again, so effortlessly that its hard to tell if its intended or if something imperceptible within you shifted the locus of yr perception. But it is all very intentional, something carefully carved to give the feeling of something, though unfamiliar and strange, organic and grown. Theres a sense of danger here like warning transmissions, concussive roiling rhythms and jagged disturbances. Yet also clear straight lines giving way to enveloping curve and staggering beauty. Supplant the beginning with the end with the beginning.”

Petra DUBACH & Mario van HORRIK
“Waves”
Petra Dubach and Mario van Horrik have been working together as an artistic duo in Eindhoven since 1983. Originally, they combined dance and music in concerts, performances and theater pieces, Dubach being a dancer and van Horrik making music. He is also a long-time member of the Maciunas Ensemble alongside Paul Panhuysen et al. Dubach’s and van Horrik’s starting point was the notion that movement and sound are essentially the same: If there is no movement (vibration), nothing can be heard; if there is no sound, nothing moves.
Over the years, the boundaries between movement and sound in their work became more and more blurred while they worked out their root idea in every thinkable form ranging from installations and site-specific works to performances and concerts. In 2010, they started their ongoing research project Waves which
involves producing movement feedback using shakers, a kind of loudspeakers that reproduce sound frequencies as vibrations, attached to long strings. Over the years, they have made numerous installations and concerts based upon this concept and have experimented with all sorts of objects incorporated into the basic Waves setup, including Chinese lanterns, hooks, loose strings etc.
This edition gathers four recordings of different Waves installations, all made in Dubach’s and van Horrik’s private studio in Eindhoven. It is presented as a double 12” set (45 rpm) with a full-color gatefold sleeve and liner notes by Milo Vojt chovsk . Edition of 300.

“Inexplicable Hours”
Inexplicable Hours is the sequel of the successful six-CD boxset Elapsed Time, also released by Sonoris in 2017. The first LP documents a new direction in his music, with some of his last electroacoustic experimentations with audio generators, field recordings, and various electronic devices. The second one explores the same ambient/drone territories as the boxset, with tracks less static and more complex than it appears on the first listen. “Rabid”
“Rabid” consists of six tracks mixed by Phillip B. Klingler, aka PBK, between 2004-06 using Wolf Eyes source material, this is the Wolf Eyes lineup of 2000-05: Nate Young, John Olson and Aaron Dilloway.
Klingler: “I was given the audio sources (via cdr) by John Olson at the Ear Candy Festival in Dearborn, Michigan, in 2004. None of the compositions on the album were completed using a computer, they were all recorded live in my home studio or at gigs and radio shows directly to digital.”
Three of the pieces on the LP were previously released in Russia on the CD, “Under My Breath”, in 2009. Also in 2009, the American Tapes label run by John Olson released a cdr of the PBK & Wolf Eyes collaborative tracks as part of the ongoing “Live Frying” series. Later, “Rabid” was available for a brief time as a net release. One review from the time stated: “Not a single track passes by without conveying grisly and creepy sensations of imminent death or disaster.”

Lago Morto is a band conceived by italian artist Nico Vascellari as contribution to the exhibition ‘Rock Scissors Paper’ curated by Diedrich Diedrichsen at Kunsthaus Graz. Lago Morto is, in the curator’s words’, ‘a social punk sculpture’, a way ‘to turn the model of the cast band upside down. Lago Morto is about things that casting calls usually exclude - targeted aggression, unpredictable social effects and local politics’. Here be the final drone / hypnogogic statement from Taiga Remains. The man behind Taiga Remains has now shelved this moniker; but he's far from hanging up his hat, as he now works under his given name Alex Cobb - also known as the philosopher king who benevolently reigns over his Students Of Decay. There are those at the Agency who can claim to speak with the poetics of corrosion, and we have long admired the sympathetic aesthetic in Cobb's gorgeously elegant compositions for guitar, bells, tape hiss, and whatnot. A sadness of things hangs in the air for Cobb's suspended mantras as these pieces evolve through a state of perpetual (un)becoming. For Cobb, the decaying sound is a steady dissolution of one chromatically rippling pattern into another which in turn diffuses into another and the cycle continues; but for every slippery note that pools into watery aquifers, Cobb distances himself from discursive and didactic languages that affix specific meanings onto work. He prefers a mystery and an ambiguousness to hang upon his crepuscular minimalism where the audience can entertain guided excursions of subjective thought. For us, these radiant guitar drones flecked with impressionist melodies bath in the snow of a thousand radios placed throughout Easter Island offering forth their eerie, luminous and beautiful sound that floats amongst those stoic heads that gaze beyond the horizon of the pacific ocean towards infinity, or oblivion if you prefer a more sublime reading. As the title to the album states, this album originally published in small cassette editions, long out of print. The material has been gloriously mastered for vinyl by James Plotkin.
Those with an ear for Andrew Chalk, William Basinski and those long-form passages from Natural Snow Buildings will find much to celebrate in Taiga Remains.

Peter KOLOVOS
“Black colors”
Over more than a decade Peter Kolovos has created an incredibly physical and dynamic musical language using the electric guitar. He plays music that unpredictably flows from electrified fragments of sound which fold and expand in dense layers and massive tones that surge and collapse in rapid succession. His approach has been called “massively a-formal” and his control of timing and texture “masterful.” Rather than set harmonic or rhythmic structures, he draws form from open sequences of sound events merged and propelled by a distinct internal logic. In his music Kolovos attempts to erase the line between intent and impulse and to create sounds that are immediate and unrepeatable. Black Colors is the fullest realization of Kolovos’s music to date. Over six sides of vinyl the album presents a vast world of intricate sound-at times dense and teeming with saturated bursts and drones and at others sparse with minute ticks and quiet tones that reverberate in open space. Without a preset listening sequence, the album is intended to be a shifting, prismatic work-with sides that can be arranged in hundreds of different sequences, each yielding a distinct sound experience. The music on Black Colors is coupled with Zoe Crosher’s artwork. Eight photographs from her "L.A. The pieces are soundtracks to educational and industrial 16mm films dealing with the subject of “work”. They were commissioned by NDR das neue werk (North German Radio).
Originally developed as a film score “Takt der Arbeit” is inspired by a handful of industrial and instructional films from the early 1960’s until the early 1990’s that portrait different forms of work. Felix Kubin is translating these historic documents into a musical poem of conceptual depth. “Takt der Arbeit” - the beat of work - is not only serving as a title but also as constructive element in this endeavour. Being hunted down by the ever accelerated pulse of our reality is an omnipresent issue in capitalist societies of the the Western world. Living in times of constant exhaustion, its not only our bodies that have been disciplined by and synchronized to the rhythms of working processes, but also our minds that rage in the tempo of our surroundings.
Following an almost analytical effort, Kubin and an ensemble of 3 percussionists are investigating the different qualities and intensities of time that are catalyzed in working processes. While picking up precise temporal and motoric motives of the films, condensing paces and excavating rhythmic patterns, the ensemble is mapping out an animist choreography, shifting from a time when labour was still relying on bodily efforts to a time when machines and ticking clocks seem to reign and model our perception. While Side A is dedicated to procedures that are still based on manual and mechanical movement, Side B is inspired by the digital age, marked by invisible processes and subcutaneous pulses that we internalize.
The result is a critical and poetic reflection on the rhythms of our daily life and yet another example of Felix Kubin’s skills as a composer, placing him in the field of academic contemporary music.

September 2015 will see the release of Thighpaulsandra’s 7th full length album “The Golden Communion”, his first since 2006’s “The Lepore Extrusion”. Well over a decade in the making, this is his debut for Editions Mego. It comprises 10 new songs, running well over two hours with individual pieces clocking in between 4 and 28 minutes. Featured musicians on the album include regular collaborators Martin Schellard and Sion Orgon, plus the odd guest/ghost from bands Thighpaulsandra has worked with in the past.
If you have heard any of Thighpaulsandra's previous albums, you will know that you'd best approach this record with no fixed set of expectations, because once again he changes genres and defies easy classification, sometimes more than once within one song.
