Warning ! Lovers of circumscribed horizons or watertight chapels, go your way, here, it is the anti-containment, it's the neighbor's hug and the shared tarantella. Fantazio & the Turbulents free their cosmic brains by freewheeling and see their bodies follow, the voices traveling towards strange territories, and the muscles beating the metric of a Martian bolero or a galactic ska.
For nearly 20 years, the winding road of the performer Fantazio has crossed those of the Turbulents, these actors, musicians and singers of ESAT Turbulences (Paris 17th). From the Adam Shelton center run by clown-psychologist Howard Buten who introduced him to Philippe Duban, who pilots Turbulences at the Les Évadés du Bocal festival, at La Fabrique du Macadam, via the Rencontres Encore Heureux and most recently at the Sonic Protest festival. Gradually, between improvisation and writing, forms appeared, figures emerged and a subtle crazy repertoire was created. A neo-dada cabaret if ever there was one, Cosmic Brain takes us by the hand and gives us a wild review of the extraordinary sonic creations born from these encounters. A blue truck dismantled like a puzzle, Luffy of One Piece wondering "how does he do that?" ... what is happening to me? »In Mathias' mouth, stellar trumpet interludes, a solo country ballad, an Otto blues, a rap that smashes, a melancolic zouk, ping-pong of signifiers, an ode to Limoges, a liaison battucada or an interstellar hymn on some hippie skinheads ... Full of images, and colors, that we would not have associated naturally but whose assembly and proximity become evident.
This is surely what emerges from listening to this disc, it is obvious that something new can arise from the meeting on condition of agreeing to go there really, without too many precautions, without too much d 'hesitation. We go there and see, we take the risk, we get out of balance, because that's where we feel the best. When they play together, no modesty of style, no false elegance of esthete, here it plays rough, the hands are made to type, the feet are made to dance.
Fantazio & Les Turbulents re-enchant the surrounding world, swallow, digest and regurgitate the sounds that surround them, but by deterritorializing them from a few galaxies, so inevitably, it distorts the shapes and contours a little, and it gives a truly unique and incredible result.
It is therefore without any hesitation that we accepted the proposal made by Fantazio to publish these recordings in the La Belle Brute Collection, which since 2016 has endeavored to make singular recordings heard and share atypical disc objects destined for all curious ears. This disc is like a backbone that brings generations together, from the Seine-Saint-Denis' historic canal around Duban & Buten to current initiatives in a way to rethink institutional psychotherapy, via Sonic Protest or La Belle Brute, like a puzzle bringing together pieces not so far apart and yet not so often gathered. This is also that, the fight against fragmentation, and it is also why this disc is precious.
Label notes :
"Reynols is back! More than fifteen years after their separation, the most insane combo of the galaxy and beyond will therefore continue to surprise us. And what a return since they are accompanied by some no less eccentric friends, namely the group Acid Mothers Temple.
On one side the Argentinian group guided by the drummer-singer-spirit Miguel Tomasin, known for his embodied chants, his absurd proposals and his chromosome 21 in three triplicate, on the other, the Japanese group with long hair and long beards, to guitars from outer space, led by the legendary Makoto Kawabata.
On the one hand, a trio sometimes quartet having released around sixty recordings including a dematerialized disc entitled "Gordura Vegetal Hidrogenada", a symphony for 10,000 chickens or compositions based on blank cassettes, offering concerts for plants, tributes with dry ice, refractions of psychic energy with toothbrushes or sound performances in public places, etc. On the other, a collective which has up to thirty members, famous and unknown, musicians, artists, dancers, farmers etc. A community with no fixed commune, a scattered collective but bound by a philosophy: "Do Whatever You Want, Don't Do Whatever You Don't Want." This "Soul Collective", in its musical proposal , took on different forms and counted many of the mythical figures of noise and Japanese sound experimentation, with members playing in Boredoms, Zeni Geva, Ruins, Otomo's ISO, Afrirampo, etc.
And it was in 2017, when Acid Mothers Temple was touring South America, that the meeting and recording of this first volume of their collaboration took place in Buenos Aires. Nine damn assertive personalities who, however, know how to find a space of collective pagan communion, a sort of anarcho-mystical mass with long-term beaches, where the waves and flows of saturated guitars or airy voices profile a blues incomparable and unprecedented psychedelic.
Acid Mothers Reynols practice until the end the jamming of tracks and landmarks, They take us to distant lands where unreason is taken seriously, or freedom is the only defensible law.
Absolute respect for these big brothers of the Raw Music Practices, without whom, probably, we would not have created this collection."
On January 27, 2019, as part of the VIVnAT LA DANSE festival of Le Vivat d'Armentières, the duo Puce Moment proposed the first diffusion of their scores written for the mechanical organs of the Café des Orgues d'Herzeele.
The Café des Orgues is a mythical place. It's a small bistrot that pays no mine, in a town of just over a thousand inhabitants on the road to Dunkirk. We can't imagine that the back room hides the most singular dance floor in the corner if not much further. Three great mechanical organs of the famous Belgian brand Mortier are recessed on three of the four walls surrounding the floor. Every Sunday, the room is open to the public made of faithful zealous who never miss a weekend except for a hip operation, young people driven by curiosity as much as the simple desire to eat a carbonade-fries while drinking a Flemish beer, but also large families and lovers of all kinds of folk music.
What a sumptuous idea then to have thought and proposed the creation of an unpublished work played on these organs to make the crowd dance that day. The challenge was rto create a composition that is danceable, where the rhythms lead to the loss of landmarks and where is heard to the micro-details of the sounds of this gigantic sound machine, with grains and textures always more organic.
A series of rough, repetitive and heady pieces that take on a particularly strong dimension to be played on these limonary organs. As if a Comeladian orchestra was playing some Steve Reich in a deterritorialized fest-noz in the Flanders for clubbers fans of German Kraut-electronic music.
Originally, Peür acts as a duo, armed with an electric guitar sharpened like a billhook, a saturated drumkit that hammers the sound space like a construction machine, and other sources of sound transformed by DIY devices. Sometimes, and this is the case, Fabrice Decemme and Mathieu Gratedoux, are joined by Didier Bourgoin, historical figure of the music scene from Poitiers (france) and creator of the Fanzinotheque, for the voice, the text thrown without artifice in the music, in a kind of brutal letting go to make many self-proclaimed improvisers pale.
Autobio / Motobio, between anecdotes, feelings and free digression of thought, the voice carried by the voice races like the projections of the guitar of the comrade, the sounds call sense that call others in a metonymic urgency that allows despite everything to stand above the void.
Peür is an enigma. You won't know much more, you will just find links with other french musical activists, limited edition productions, a split tape with Jean-Louis Costes... clues, therefore, signs of a state of mind frankly engaged in the margins and the « pratiques brutes de la musique ».
La Belle Brute is very proud to collaborate with Les Potagers Natures in the edition of this beautiful 10-inch silkscreen printed at 300 copies.
Nearly 15 years after the edition "Maison.House II-V" CD - in duet with his electroacoustic friend Eric La Casa - Vert Pituite La Belle is pleased to collaborate once again with Jean-Luc Guionnet, this time alone and at the organ.
For Arantzazu Close & Far, the vinyl medium makes perfect sense: two sides, two versions of the same sound event, the recording of the same improvisation on the organ of the basilica of the monastery of Arantzazu in the Spanish Basque country, realized during a residency of a few days in this high-place of the history of the region at the invitation of the collective AudioLab.
On the first side, we hear the sound recording made by a pair of microphones arranged closer to the organ while the second we hear the same improvisation but from the bottom of the monastery.
After “Sodorome”, Jean-Marie Massou is back with a 2 LP of incredible and beautifull songs (through an empty water tank) !
If you like outsider artists, you will love him !
It’s once again an incredible record highly recommended.
Some of you may have discovered Jean-Marie Massou in the film from Antoine Boutet, “Le Plein Pays”. We can see him gathering big stones, trying to clean the earth, and building an incredible cave. We also can see him working with different tape recorders. He likes recording his voice, some of his texts, mixing with some musics and local noises.
