Michael Gendreau is an artist and acoustic researcher, he uses architectural vibrations specific to each building as an imposing live sound source, digging inside the sound system and its limits the necessary power to use the building itself as some kind of loudspeaker moving over a wide spectrum of sound frequencies. As Michael says: « Each building speaks a unique language ».
Francisco Meirino’s work explores the tension between programmable material and the potential for its failure, he is primarily interested in the idea of recording what is not supposed to be: gear failures, the death of PA systems, magnetic fields, and electro-static noises and in how he can use them and hear them radically out of context. His music tries to push the physical limits of either the electronic material or when he composed music for acoustic ensembles, the musicians with pieces that require a strong presence and sonic tension.
Together, they tried their best to activate on the same sonic level, both the room and the audience within the room with a sense of danger, urgency, sonic distress, and architectural awareness.
Recorded live in Switzerland in July 2008 at Cave 12, Geneva and Oblo, Lausanne.
These live recordings were lost and forgotten in our archives, more than a decade later, they were found on a dusty external hard drive in Meirino’s home studio.

The last five years have seen the reemergence of a towering figure of electronic music. Through multiple boxed set releases, and a dedicated Bandcamp page releasing unheard works at an unfaltering pace, the work of pioneering cybernetic composer Roland Kayn has reached a wider audience than ever before.
Now, a bedrock work in establishing this reputation is available once more, as Tektra, his overarching landmark work of the early 1980s, is finally restored to availability after decades out of print.
Reissued by Reiger Records Reeks – the composer’s own label, now presided over by his daughter Ilse – Tektra here unfolds across 5 CDs. The new edition was mastered by Jim O’Rourke from a transfer of the original tapes present in the Lydia and Roland Kayn Archive. It implements Kayn’s directions on crossfades and edits as fully as possible, while also reincorporating almost 5 minutes of music previously
unavailable in digital format.
Kayn’s glacial, otherworldly electronic landscapes have always been somewhat at odds with the world of contemporary composition his background and training located him within. His rejection of compositional dogma and traditional musical structures eventually led him to discover a source of endless inspiration in the cybernetic generation of material, and the curatorial act of listening itself.
Perhaps this is why Kayn’s recognition is only approaching its zenith today: his work is far from the passive, unobtrusive world of “ambient”, but its embrace of extended duration, drone-like textures, and the exploration of space as timbre are undeniable shared attributes. Today’s most forward-looking musical practitioners – many of whom cite Kayn as a direct influence – have perhaps discovered a similar territory, at
the threshold point where mindblowing complexity approaches the overwhelming sensation of true immersion.

RLW ( aka Ralf Wehowsky ) whose work deals in the transformation of prerecorded sound material, the permutation of the senses and the metamorphosis of the sensitive, has been a proponent of long distance collaborations for decades, long before lockdown made this manner of working popular. This goes way back to his beginnings with Permutative Distortion or P16.D4 and the Selektion label. He is a strict and disciplined composer, a formal organizer of discernible objects.
Tunnel presents five pieces built using fragments of Annette Krebs's voice. Far from being anecdotal, the work reveals a true alchemy. Vocal prints are converted into roaring metallic textures lost in an endless sonic vortex, both sculptural and masterful.

“Tombstones”
'Tombstones' is a collection of twenty songs composed by American composer Michael Pisaro-Liu between 2006 and 2010, journeying into experimental pop with pieces that are "experimental or indeterminate but still a song". This disc features eleven songs under the artistic direction of the Lille-based pianist Barbara Dang. Dang and six members of the Muzzix collective recorded the pieces in June 2020, with Maryline Pruvost as the primary vocalist.
This disc features the same eleven songs under the artistic direction of the Lille-based pianist Barbara Dang. Dang and six members of the Muzzix collective (Yoann Bellefont, Ivann Cruz, Raphaël Godeau, Peter Orins, Christian Pruvost, Maryline Pruvost) recorded the pieces in June 2020, with Maryline Pruvost as the primary vocalist. While the 2013 ‘Tombstones’ release on Human Ear Music featured four different singers, and had experimental, impromptu arrangements, this new realization, with one main singer (Maryline Pruvost), is poetically nuanced, ethereal, pop-influenced chamber music.
"If Michael Pisaro-Liu is known for the integration of silence in his music, notably within the group of Wandelweiser composers, it is remarkable to see to what extent this composer possesses great knowledge of very varied musical genres (classical, metal, harsh noise, rock, rap, etc.) With Tombstones, Pisaro-Liu links writing modes that are specific to his way of composing - such as experimentation and indeterminacy - to the most widespread form of music: the so-called popular song. The singularity of this collection lies in the fact that the eleven titles that make it up are taken from country or blues songs, and in the fact that the instrumentation, the interpretation as well as the duration of certain titles is left undetermined. This allows the performance to be conceived in different ways: a song can be stretched to the extreme to compose an entire concert, the collection can be interpreted in its entirety, and the orchestration and the number of musicians on stage can also vary from one song to another, or even from one performance to another." Jordan DYKSTRA – Koen NUTTERS
“In Better Shape Than You Found Me”
'In Better Shape Than You Found Me' is a one-hour piece jointly composed and realized by American composer/violist Jordan Dykstra and Dutch composer/musician Koen Nutters in the year 2020.
Dykstra plays viola, pitch pipe, crotales, piano EBow, electronic programming, field recordings, and Nutters delivers the piano programming and field recordings. The two bring together their sounds and structures in very organic ways, merging into a single, intriguing sound world.
Sparsely created minimal sounds from various instruments and electronics intersect and move organically in a geometric pattern, linearly or ascendingly, while retaining calmness and a sense of spatial expansion over the subtle presence of field recordings, occasionally hovering at the edge of harmonies or assimilating into silences.
A quartet version of the piece was recently premiered by the ensemble of Dykstra, Manuel Lima, Lucy Railton, and Hannes Lingens at KM28 in Berlin on August 7, 2021. Further performances of different versions of the piece are likely to appear in Amsterdam and New York City in the near future.

Bruno DUPLANT – Guy VANDROMME
“L’infini des possibles”
"l'infini des possibles" is a set of twelve studies for solo piano, written by French composer Bruno Duplant in 2019. The Belgian pianist/conductor Guy Vandromme intensely studied these 12 pieces via in-depth discussions with Duplant over two years, and realized them for this recording of a double CD in the spring of 2021. Mixed, mastered by Bruno Duplant.
From the liner notes by Michael Pisaro-Liu :
“Let’s begin with a proposition: as finite beings, it is impossible for us to have a real experience of the infinite. If that is the case, how does an artwork create a representation of the infinite?
One way is to introduce an infinite potential in the process of finishing the work. A score is indeterminate when it leaves critical decisions for the performing musician. Those decisions compound and quickly add up to a very large number. If one had to make each decision consciously, through calculation, it would take a lifetime to learn to play an indeterminate piece like 'l’infini des possibles'. Luckily, in practice, the musician is guided, inevitably, by his own instincts. He makes many decisions quickly and unconsciously, adapting patterns he already has in his hands and in his ears.
Bruno Duplant’s score consists primarily of lowercase letters (a, b, c, d, e, f, g). The letters stand for the “white keys” of the piano. Periods and spaces are placed in the letter stream to give a suggestion of phrasing. Occasionally these letters are affected by accents, uppercase shifts, cédilles and apostrophes, with each of these marks open to interpretation. A line of letters should last about one minute. Each étude consists of a single page of eight lines. While the order of the letters is fixed, their combinations and repetitions are determined by the performer. What looks like melody can become harmony; what appears to be simple, can become complex. The performer is asked to play “soberly, slowly and with a sweet melancholy.”
Given the openness of this score, much of the feeling and atmosphere will be the result of a set of substantive artistic determinations made by the pianist. “How much do I use the pedal? Does it sustain, feather or stop completely at the end of this phrase? Precisely how long do I wait before the next note? Are these two letters to be played together or separate? In the same octave or an octave apart? Perhaps three octaves apart? How do I make a rhythm that turns this stream of letters into a figure? Do the a and g ring long enough to harmonize with the e?” There are thousands of such decisions to be made in each of these études.
What begins as a black-and-white figure drawing ends as a hand-colored portrait. Those colors are beautiful: subtle, shaded, nuanced, detailed. Through the sensitive touch of Guy Vandromme, the potentials of the score acquire dimension and expression. “Vogelscheiß Und Seine Verrückten Kröten”
John Hubbard, who is also a book designer and based in Finland, had released the sole recordings of the legendary project "Vogelscheiß Und Seine Verrückten Kröten" in 1989 in a limited edition of just 50 copies on his Strength Through Joy label. Now these rare recordings are re-issued for the first time by Art Into Life.
In 1988, upon meeting Steve Stapleton while on vacation in Europe, John then went to Aachen and visited Christoph Heemann & Andreas Martin, and the enigmatic sessions they recorded are revealed here.
Remastered by Jos Smolders, who has worked on projects by Takehisa Kosugi, Pierre Henry, and titles on the Come Organisation label.
The CD edition differs from the LP edition in that each one has its own unique handcrafted paper jacket, differing in color and texture. Limited to 200 copies.

Born at the intersection of space, time and absurdity...
After years correspondence with various musicians in UK and Europe (resulting from fandom and the process of co-publishing the BirthDeath compendium about Come Organisation), the opportunity arose for me to spend three months traveling in the Fall/Winter of 1988. UK travels included a brief but impressionable stay with Steve Stapleton and Diane Rogerson in London, with with visits to John Smith (Interchange magazine) in Newcastle, and Mark Durgan (Birthbiter, Putrifier) in Oxford. Following this, a lengthy stay with Christoph Heemann (HNAS, DOM Records) in Aachen, Germany, with a side trip to Ivrea, Italy to stay with Andrea Cernotto (The Sodality).
Christoph and I whiled away our time listening to records, talking of records, shopping for records, and discussing the process of making a record together.
While dining in a local Thai restaurant in Aachen we heard a warbly, distorted background music tape that had likely been playing for ages, thinking, "we can do this..." and took it as inspiration for the opening track on the LP. We invited Christoph's brother, Andreas Martin, to join us in the fun, to which he graciously agreed. We booked the studio and rehearsed at their parent's house the night before with violin, banjo and recorder. We transferred a piano piece I had recorded in Seattle, a field recording of toads, created the radio/sound collage for Jolly Jumble from the tapes I brought, and completed the album with an ambient piece.
We took our master tape to Belgium to have the lacquer cut and shipped it off to the pressing plant in Germany. I flew back to Seattle and patiently waited for my copies from the "test pressing" ... 50 copies. Christoph kept 8-9 copies for himself, Andreas, and friends.

French musician & performance artist Manon Anne Gillis came to Japan to perform in 2016 following the 2015 release of the 5-CD archive box set from Art Into Life, which was a compilation of earlier recordings. Now at last, for the first time in 27 years since 1994’s “Euragine” in CD format, her long-awaited 7th solo album is completed. As she still continues to progress and evolve musically, this work is constructed primarily around primitive hiss noise and error sounds. Here she has woven a musical tapestry that is more blurred, obscured, and noise-oriented than her earlier work. With the strong cohesiveness of her disquieting singing voice in a thunderous roar bellowing from the inner depths, the repetition of the dense glitch sounds, and the nostalgic concept of the obscure rhythm track (track 5) will remind us of her days when she went by the alias Devil’s Picnic.

Pascal Battus and Michel Doneda performed as a duo for the first time at a private concert in Paris on December 2016. Afterwards, they played together a couple of times until this recording made on July 2020. The instrumental combination they bring into play is unusual. The duo is a dizzying dive into the heart of sound and texture, a passionate and continuous examination of surrounding sound events.
Sound artist and improviser, Pascal Battus develops a sound practice attentive to the sound gesture, to listening and to the situation that determines them, whatever the instrument used: guitar pick-up (guitar microphone without guitar), "surrounded" guitar (electric guitar on table + contact microphone + various objects + electronics), percussion (amplified objects or not) and rotating surfaces he plays in this recording. They are generally mechanisms of old Walkmans, made up of small plates put in movement by electric motors, on which come to react vibrators and resonators such as sheets of paper, cardboard, plastic, metal, wood, fragments of styrofoam, cups, rods and cymbals...
Michel Doneda has become a unique voice in the world of improvised music. To interpret her two compositions, Sillons and Reflets, Patricia Bosshard could not have hoped for better than the ONCEIM and the CoÔ ensemble, two groups of which she is also a member as a violinist.
These two ensembles bring together instrumentalists of a very high level, from very diverse musical backgrounds: improvised music, jazz, free jazz, classical and contemporary music, experimental music. The collaboration between the musicians and the composer is organized around playing modes that favor minimalist and innovative forms. The scores allow the musicians to experiment with the proposed material, and to appropriate the form, while highlighting the sound potential of the collective.
"I composed Sillon, a repetitive, bewitching piece, which, in its form, evolves from the individual to the large orchestra, passing by groups and sub-groups gathered by affinities of material, timbre, sound. The composition Reflets is based on harmonics. I redistributed these harmonics within the ensemble, played at different octaves, as notes, as harmonics or as ponticello (bow near the bridge), thus generating new harmonics." Patricia Bosshard
Born in Switzerland, Patricia Bosshard is a violinist and composer who studied classical music in Montreal, composition and electroacoustics in Geneva, and jazz in Lausanne. She has developed her own language of experimental and improvised music, which she uses in numerous collaborations with musicians, directors and choreographers.
Founded in 2011 at the instigation of pianist Frédéric Blondy, ONCEIM is an orchestra of 34 musicians. ONCEIM is dedicated to contemporary creation. Well known for his interpretations of the most recent works of Éliane Radigue, ONCEIM also played compositions by Stephen O'Malley, Martin Tétreault, Carsten Nicolai, John Tilbury, Peter Ablinger, Jean-Luc Guionnet, Frédéric Blondy, Sébastien Beliah, Bertrand Denzler, Pierre-Antoine Badaroux, Jean-Sébastien Mariage, Jérome Noetinger, Arnaud Rivière. ONCEIM has been in residency since 2011 at the Saint Merry Church (Paris). ONCEIM has played in Europe at the Venice Biennale, at several festivals (Krakow, Utrecht, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Geneva), as well as at festivals in France such as Météo, Densités, Extension, Macval, and the Fondation Cartier.
Created by Félicie Bazelaire, CoÔ is a string ensemble bringing together string players of ONCEIM. CoÔ aims to build new directions in instrumental research, and create a new repertoire based on specific techniques for bowed strings. In 2019, Potlatch has already released a recording of CoÔ: Arc (compositions by Bertrand Denzler).

Julius Eastman
There was some for John Cage, then came Christian Wolff, and finally Morton Feldman, from this school in New York. Only Julius Eastman remained outside the game, the last figure, the most solitary and enigmatic - undoubtedly also one of the most powerful, and it is this power that is revealed through these recordings. In the 1970s and 1980s, Eastman was one of the very few African-Americans to gain recognition in the New York avant-garde music scene. He was politically committed, a figure of queer culture and a solar and solitary poet whose melancholy influenced his genius as well as his tragic destiny : suffering from various addictions, declared missing, actually homeless. During Winter of 1981-82, he got deported from his apartment by the police, who destroyed most of what he owned - including scores and recordings. He was found dead in 1990, on the streets of Buffalo, after years of vagrancy.
The Performers
Nicolas Horvath, pianist and electroacoustic composer. He is known for his boundariesless musical explorations - he has collaborated with leading contemporary composers from around the world, including Alvin Lucier, Alvin Curran and Valentyn Silvestrov - the recordings of his complete works for piano by Phil Glass made a lasting impression. He has collaborated recently with Lustmord on the Deconstruction of November by Dennis Johnson (Sub Rosa SR502: The Fall).
Melaine Dalibert, a French composer and pianist, fascinated by natural phenomena which are both expected and unpredictable, Dalibert has developed his own algorithmic procedures of composition which contain the notion of stretched time evoking Morton Feldman, minimal and introspective, adopting a unique concept of fractal series.
Stephane Ginsburgh, a tireless surveyor of the repertoire but also explorer of new music, collaborated with composers such as Philippe Boesmans, Jean-Luc Fafchamps, Stefan Prins, Frederic Rzewski and Matthew Shlomowitz of whom he premiered works, as well as with choreographers such as Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker (Rosas) and recorded Feldman, Duchamp and Satie for Sub Rosa and the complete set of Prokofiev piano sonatas for Cypres.
Wilhem Latchoumia, he embraces both new music and the classical repertoire with success and charisma. His two last recordings for La Dolce Volta (Prokofiev and de Falla) have been highly acclaimed by critics with a FFFF in Télérama. Winner of the Hewlett-Packard Foundation and the Montsalvatge International Piano Competition, he brilliantly won the First Prize in the 2006 Orléans International Piano Competition.

“Sonic Waters, Underwater Music 1979-1987”
A work that literally immerses the listener into an acoustical substance. The sound becomes almost like matter, like jelly. Soon, you're swimming in sound, getting lost inside it.
With the Sonic Waters project initiated in 1978, my aim was to situate field of electronic music within a liberating and futuristic experience, outside the concert halls and in sync with the development of new instruments - in particular the Synclavier digital synthesizer, the first model of which I acquired in 1977. As concert space, the Pacific Ocean seemed to me to be the ideal experimental medium for both acoustic and cultural reasons. I then developed the aesthetic and technical elements that would contribute to the conception of Underwater Music. Numerous performances would follow spanning four decades, in natural sites or in large public pools such as those of Sydney, Paris or Venice during the 2006 Biennale.
Michel Redolfi (1951), French composer and sound artist, is the founder of Underwater Music. The natural elements captured and highlighted by experimental technology are a constant in Redolfi's catalogue: many compositions explore the earth environments such as in 'Pacific Tubular Waves', 'Jungles', 'Desert Tracks' (re-released on Sub Rosa records) and especially with 'Sonic Waters', a work that literally immerses the listener into an acoustical substance. During the mid-seventies Redolfi carried out his electro-acoustic research in the United States, with major electronic music centers including the California Institute of the Arts and chiefly the University of California in San Diego. As invited resident of their studios, Michel Redolfi launched the underwater music concerts, with the series 'Sonic Waters' performed in the Pacific Ocean. Michel Redolfi's underwater creations have since been regularly programmed by major international festivals, with multi-media installations held in ecological marine reserves or in historical city pools. Tetsuo FURUDATE
“The nocturne, the nightmare and a fruit”
Tetsuo Furudate has been working on projects including electronic music, films, videos creating time passages between old and new pieces, re-reading the past through re-appropriations. All his recent pieces can be watched or just listened to. It is also a cultural mix embracing all eastern and western cultures (from JS Bach to Merzbow). Here he recreates a borderless and timeless universe, where voices and pianos reach emotional moments of great depth. The whole is driven by Tetsuo who, by a continuous mixing, conceives these different pieces as an editor would a film made of borrowings images, archives material and unpublished fragments.
Tetsuo Furudate was first the collaborator and friend of Zbigniew Karkowski in Japan, together they created some of the most radical but complex pieces under the name of "World as Will" (after Arthur Schopenhauer's book), some of which were rewritten for the viennese Zeitkratzer Ensemble (received worldwide attention when they created and performed a new version of Metal Machine Music by Lou Reed - including Ulrich Krieger and Anton Lukoszevieze).
Keiko Higuchi is above all a pianist and performer, linked to jazz and improvisation. She was revealed by Love Hotel (2008), her concerts are like real performances, she is considered as one of the most singular and impressive performing artists of her generation.
Olga Magieres, Russian pianist living in Denmark, specializes in improvised music and the syntactic relationship of languages. She has already collaborated with Tetsuo in 2010 with Introduction Of Blue Of Noon, her first opus Piano and Poetry had been praised.

Adam Pacione's finely crafted, deeply affecting drone work has found its place in the upper echelon of modern ambient artistry. Once heard, the gorgeous fluidity of his music is instantly recognizable.
Now, an absolutely crucial addition to Pacione's relatively slim oeuvre is here, offering more than four hours of aural color and visual sound from a master of the medium. "Any Way, Shape, or Form," a stunning 4CD box set, compiles all the material from Pacione’s "Still Life" series of 3" CDRs, originally offered via monthly subscription throughout 2009 and now long out of print. The late night ambient/drone sessions in this set were pulled from recordings made from 1999-2009, many of which originally served as soundtracks to Pacione’s photography exhibitions in galleries throughout Texas. These recordings have been meticulously remastered and two previously unreleased tracks from this period have been added, resulting in an absolute must-have for aficionados of haunting, textural, electronic music.
Pacione’s work largely centers around early Portastudio tape loop experiments, synthesizers, samples, and processed field recordings that gradually decompress to form a hypnotic serenade of becalmed tones. After years of experimentation, his first releases appeared in 2004, leading up to his proper debut album, "Sisyphus," a year later. By this time, Pacione's name was becoming synonymous with lush, atmospheric sonances of the highest caliber. His reputation strengthened even more with his next full-length, 2007's masterful "From Stills to Motion," which fully delivered on the promise of his earlier efforts. Since then, Pacione has stayed active with performances and recordings (see 2020's excellent digital-only "Mâché"). His physical output has been sparse over the last decade or so, however, and copies of the earlier releases are now quite scarce. "Any Way, Shape, or Form" then is particularly essential in making this vital section of Pacione's discography widely available for the first time.
The sixteen tracks included here are mostly long-form pieces: contemplative soundscapes evolving at a deliberate pace. There is an inherent spaciousness in these works; sounds are free to move and breathe as they shift between tension and tranquility. These extended audial ruminations allow Pacione to examine and subtly emphasize the details of each arrangement. And these details have been brought into sharp focus by the rigorous mastering job executed by renowned sound artist Alex Keller: a drifting haze sharply underscored by a biting frost.
In addition to the peerless audio in this set is a 20-page booklet reproducing all of Pacione's photography from the original CDRs as well as several previously unpublished images. These truly are the visual equivalents of his recordings: otherworldly snapshots of a stylized vision of nature, neither artificial nor entirely organic but a harmonious amalgamation. These rich photographs are somehow both crisply intricate and dreamily impressionistic: the ideal accompaniment for Pacione's evocative sound, perfectly rounding out his world-building.
This beautiful artefact is simply a rare pleasure for the senses. And a welcome reintroduction to Adam Pacione's singular aesthetic. A treasure not to be missed.

Recorded on the hottest days in the longest year, "Radioactive Desire" is a work for free chamber music in feedback environments. Simple improvisational structures gave focus to the exquisite playing of the musicians, and the performers were physically located within speakers of varying sizes to create multidimensional feedback systems.
It is a project borne of feedback between speakers and instruments, but the context in which it came to fruition demonstrated the deep interconnections between people and systems of collaboration. The project was a way to activate musical signals with the push and pull of chthonic energy, yet we felt and lived that in the improvisation of our lives to a more visceral extent than we may have ever thought possible. Working with these sounds, processes, and ideas provided substance and process for me to work through these difficult times.
Bob Bellerue is a sound artist, experimental musician, sound/video curator, and creative technician based in Ridgewood NY. Over the last 30+ years he has been involved in creating and presenting a wide range of sonic activities – experimental music, sound art, noise, junk metal percussion ensembles, soundtracks for dance/ theater/ video/ performance art, and sound / video installations. Bob’s electronic sound work is focused on resonant feedback systems, using amplified instruments, objects, recordings, and spaces, in combination with electronics and software written in the Supercollider audio synthesis programming language.
Bob works as an audio engineer and technical director, working presently for Issue Project Room, and a handful of clients in the NYC area once the coast is clear.

In these infraliminary dimensions, my perception of the reality is constantly stretched to the limits of the comprehensible.

Between 2011 and 2019, INA Grm organised a yearly competition, called Banc d’essai. During this period, the jury listened to nearly a thousand works, with an ever-renewed curiosity for what seemed to be the voice of a new generation of creators. Every year, about ten pieces were selected to be performed on the Acousmonium, and it’s on those occasions that all these talents have revealed themselves to us with the most forcefullness. In 2020, as the competition renews itself, we wanted to close this chapter with a record release featuring eighteen works whose depth and sensitivity have particularly moved us, and which, through a remarkable spirit of research and invention, have, each in their own way, contributed to the gradual, stimulating and ongoing transformation of music at large.

Asmus TIETCHENS
“Ptomaine 1”
Asmus Tietchens is a sound artist and composer from Hamburg, Germany. He got interested in Musique Concrete by listening to a German radio programme when he was 10 years old. In 1965, at the age of 18, Asmus started experimenting with tape loops and turned them into musical collages. Soon, the use of synthesizers was added. In 1980 his debut album Nachtstücke was released, produced by Peter Baumann of Tangerine Dream. This was soon followed by a series of albums of electronic pop music for the Sky label, home of many Krautrock bands. Tietchens often uses special source materials for his compositions such as water (Seuchengebiete), human voices (Von Mund zu Mund), paper (Papier ist geduldig). He is associated with the Industrial music scene through his collaborations and releases on labels such as United Dairies, Esplendor Geometrico or Dom Records. Tietchens never studied composition, he has no academic background, everything he does is self taught or learnign by doing. Nevertheless, he was professor for sound design in Hamburg in recent years. Ptomaine was originally released on RRRecords in 1996 as a 3 LP set. This is the first volume of the first ever CD re-issue.

“Musical Education”
Joke Lanz was born in Basel, Switzerland and is a well-know noise musician, performance artist and turntablist. He is also founding member and singer in the art rock group Sudden Infant, a meber of the legendary Schimpfluch group (alongside Rudolf Eb.er, Dave Phillips, Marc Zeier and Daniel Löwenbrück) and performs in many duos and and other forms in the improvisation scene. He also writes music for theatre and film, radio, installations and objects. Dieter Kovačič aka Dieb13 is an Austrian improvisational musician who mostly works with turntables. Since the late 1980s he has been experimenting with cassette players, vinyl records, CDs and harddiscs. He has a duo with Billy Roisz which combines electronic music with experimental filmmaking. In autumn 2020, the two met in Vienna for a concert at GrillX. Three turntables were used and the result was amazing: stunning sounds, great humor, heads full of ideas. This CD is a recording of that show.

“Carnage”
Un Drame Musical Instantané were founded in 1976, featuring Jean-Jacques Birgé, Bernard Vitet and Francis Gorgé. Their aim was to promote collective musical creation, co-signing their albums, which they consider as artworks in themselves, or their live shows which they tried to renew every time they played. Their sound was created with many influences: They borrowed their sources from rock (synthesizer player Birgé and guitarist Gorgé, both authors of the album, Défense de); jazz (trumpeter Vitet who founded the first free jazz band in France, together with François Tusques, as well as Michel Portal who played with many American and European jazzmen); classical modern music; as well as movies or world news; they were the first in France to give a new impetus to live music on silent movies. After having improvised freely for many years, they led a fifteen piece orchestra from 1981 to 1986, and from 1989 onwards they produced multimedia shows (live video remix on a giant screen, fireworks, choreographies). Still their music was the most important technique, they called their recordings "blind cinema". The Drame used to mix acoustic and electronic instruments in real time as well as original instruments built by Vitet (a reed trumpet, a multiphonic French horn, a variable tension double-bass, a giant balafon with frying pans and flower pots keyboard, a fire organ, plexiglas flutes, etc.). After Francis Gorgé left the band in 1992, Birgé and Vitet went on recording and producing with other musicians close to the "family" such as percussionist, Gérard Siracusa, or multi-instrumentalist, Hélène Sage. Un Drame Musical Instantané always remained independent (they always owned their own recording studio and record label GRRR) and stopped its activities in 2008, with Birgé being the only one active until this day. Carnage was the band's 6th album, released in 1985 on their own GRRR label. It sees the band back to their most famous trio format consisting of Birge, Gorge and Vitet.
