Pascal Battus and Michel Doneda performed as a duo for the first time at a private concert in Paris on December 2016. Afterwards, they played together a couple of times until this recording made on July 2020. The instrumental combination they bring into play is unusual. The duo is a dizzying dive into the heart of sound and texture, a passionate and continuous examination of surrounding sound events.
Sound artist and improviser, Pascal Battus develops a sound practice attentive to the sound gesture, to listening and to the situation that determines them, whatever the instrument used: guitar pick-up (guitar microphone without guitar), “surrounded” guitar (electric guitar on table + contact microphone + various objects + electronics), percussion (amplified objects or not) and rotating surfaces he plays in this recording. They are generally mechanisms of old Walkmans, made up of small plates put in movement by electric motors, on which come to react vibrators and resonators such as sheets of paper, cardboard, plastic, metal, wood, fragments of styrofoam, cups, rods and cymbals…
Michel Doneda has become a unique voice in the world of improvised music. For more than 30 years, he has been developing a highly original style of playing on the soprano saxophone, using specific techniques, and constantly elaborating musical proposals that are free from all conventions. For him, improvisation is not only a musical form to get off the beaten track, but also a total commitment.

La première rencontre de Pascal Battus et Michel Doneda remonte Ă un concert privĂ© donnĂ© Ă Paris en dĂ©cembre 2016. Ils ont rejouĂ© deux ou trois fois depuis, jusqu’Ă cet enregistrement de juillet 2020.
La combinaison instrumentale qu’ils mettent en jeu est insolite. Leur duo constitue une plongĂ©e vertigineuse au cĹ“ur de la matière et de la texture sonore, un examen passionnĂ© et ininterrompu des Ă©vĂ©nements sonores environnants.
Artiste sonore et improvisateur, Pascal Battus dĂ©veloppe une pratique du son attentive au geste sonore, Ă l’Ă©coute et Ă la situation qui les dĂ©termine, quel que soit l’instrument utilisĂ© : pick-up de guitare (micro de guitare sans guitare), guitare “environnĂ©e” (guitare Ă©lectrique sur table + micro contact + objets divers + Ă©lectronique), percussion (objets amplifiĂ©s ou non) et surfaces rotatives dont il joue dans cet enregistrement. Il s’agit gĂ©nĂ©ralement de mĂ©canismes de vieux Walkmans, constituĂ©s de petits plateaux mis en mouvement par des moteurs Ă©lectriques, sur lesquels viennent rĂ©agir vibrateurs et rĂ©sonateurs tels que feuilles de papier, carton, plastique, mĂ©tal, bois, fragments de polystyrène, gobelets, tiges et cymbales…
Michel Doneda est devenu une voix unique dans l’univers des musiques improvisĂ©es. Il dĂ©veloppe depuis plus de 30 ans, au saxophone soprano, un jeu très original utilisant des techniques spĂ©cifiques, et Ă©labore sans relâche des propositions musicales libĂ©rĂ©es de toutes conventions. Pour lui, l’improvisation est non seulement une forme musicale pour sortir des sentiers battus, mais aussi un engagement total.
