François BAYLE
“Le Projet Ouïr”

Digipack CD including a 24-page booklet in French and English INA grm is pleased to present Le Projet « Ouïr » by François Bayle, a 62’ minute piece composed between 2015 and 2019, published for the first time on CD digipak. The French language can hear (entendre), listen (écouter), grasp (comprendre). “Comprendre” aims too far. What is grasped has already been digested by the mind, away from the ear. “Entendre” is poorly distinguished from it—mainly because of “entendement”, which is virtually the same as “raison” (reason). That leaves us with “écouter”: the only one amongst the three that exclusively refers to the ear. Whoever listens stretches out his or her ear and expects to hear something and understand its ins and outs. However, this is still too nice, too urban. The idea is to break out of these customary dimensions and enter more difficult and risky territories. This is the “Ouïr” Project (Le Projet « Ouïr »). This archaic verb, which is now obsolete and that we can’t conjugate properly anymore, invites us to exercise a proto-listening, awkward, uncomfortable and unsure of its aims—yet with the promise of new horizons. - Regis Renouard Larivière

Luc FERRARI
“L’œuvre électronique”

2023 repress The decision to assemble a boxed set titled Luc Ferrari, l’œuvre électronique [Luc Ferrari, Electronic Works], defining the word electronic in the widest sense possible, meant bringing together an essential part of the composer’s work: tape music without any classical instruments. From Étude aux accidents (1958) to Arythmiques (2003), the 31 works in this compilation will help the listener to discover all the facets of his art based on “captured” sounds. He tried and tested all the different techniques of studio work: brilliantly elaborated electroacoustic works, radiophonic story-telling or Hörspiele, which he particularly relished, or other semi-improvised works. This editorial choice is not a way of drawing a hierarchy between on the one hand so-called mixed music (with instruments), which he excelled at, and on the other hand the type of music published here, which only includes recorded sounds. On the contrary, what we aimed to do was to show the strong links he drew between natural sounds and the way he scored them. On this subject, Pierre Schaeffer often talked of the necessary balance between sounds and musicality. The power of recorded sounds alone (voices, landscapes, strange sounds, everyday scenes, etc.) without formal mastery is not enough to hold the listener's attention for long. From that point of view, each work of Ferrari’s is a discrete lesson in music. Ferrari was always very lucid when he claimed that a composer was a little like a “journalist” who, through his compositions, witnessed the state of the world while at the same time creating a work of art. This is another aspect of this edition: as we listen and in filigree, half a century unfolds before us. A committed artist bears witness to technological progress, political awareness, reports and crucial encounters. More than an essential compilation, this boxed set reflects the personality of a diverse, inventive and extraordinarily musical man. CD 4: “Danses organiques”. CD 5: “Ouvert-Fermé”, “Unheimlich Schön”, “Dérivatif”. “Banc d’essai 2011-2019”

Between 2011 and 2019, INA Grm organised a yearly competition, called Banc d’essai. During this period, the jury listened to nearly a thousand works, with an ever-renewed curiosity for what seemed to be the voice of a new generation of creators. Every year, about ten pieces were selected to be performed on the Acousmonium, and it’s on those occasions that all these talents have revealed themselves to us with the most forcefullness. In 2020, as the competition renews itself, we wanted to close this chapter with a record release featuring eighteen works whose depth and sensitivity have particularly moved us, and which, through a remarkable spirit of research and invention, have, each in their own way, contributed to the gradual, stimulating and ongoing transformation of music at large. François BAYLE
“50 ans d’acousmatique”

“François Bayle’s itinerary spans over five decades through which music was able to renovate its material through a sensible use of technology. The terms of Musique Concrète, Electroacoustics or Acousmatics, as conveniently proposed by François Bayle, ultimately explore a similar artistic approach: a creative and expressive work on recorded sound. This last half-century saw many major technical mutations and François Bayle - in the fertile context of the Grm - seized the right opportunities, often initiating them through his function as director, so as to renovate and update creativity to serve what he called the Light Speed Sound. The fifty opuses in this box set are all markers or beacons illuminating this musical adventure firmly placed under the sign of modernity. Listening through them with a curious and active ear is also a way of witnessing how utopia can occur; how yesterday’s strange sounds are now fully part of our audible landscape.” Christian Zanési. “Trois rêves d’oiseau” (1963, 1971). “Espaces inhabitables” (1967). “Jeîta, ou Murmure des eaux” (1970 - new version 2012). “L’expérience acoustique” (1969 - 1972). “Purgatoire d’après la Divine Comédie de Dante” (1972). “Vibrations composées” (1973). “Grande polyphonie” (1974). “Camera oscura” (1976). “Les Couleurs de la nuit” (1982 - new version 2012). “Erosphère” with “Tremblement de terre très doux” (1978), “La Fin du bruit” (1979-80 - new version 2009), “Eros” (1979-80), “Toupie dans le ciel” (1979-80 - new version 2009). “Son - Vitesse - Lumière” with “Grandeur nature” (1980), “Paysage, personnage, nuage” (1980), “Voyage au centre de la tête” (1981), “Le Sommeil d’Euclide” (1983), “Lumière ralentie” (1983). “Motion-Émotion” (1985). “Théâtre d’Ombres” (1988). “Fabulæ” with “Fabula” (1990), “Onoma” (1990), “Nota” (1991), “Sonora” (1992). “Mimaméta” (1989). “La main vide” (1994-95) with “Bâton de pluie”, “La Fleur future”, “Inventions”. “Morceaux de ciels” (1996). “Arc, pour Gérard Grisey” (unedited) (1999). “La forme du temps est un cercle” with “Concrescence” (2001), “Si loin, si proche…” (1998 - 2001 - new version 2012), “Tempi” (1999-2000), “Allures” (1999-2000), “Cercles” (2000-2001). “La forme de l’esprit est un papillon” (2002-04) with ”Ombrages et trouées” (2004 - new version 2012), “Couleurs inventées” (2003). “Univers nerveux - in memoriam K. Pierre HENRY
“Labyrinthe !”

First performance commissioned by Radio France, March 2003. “For the first time during my journey and ventures into the world of creation, I dreamt of a breath of fresh air deriving from the electronic realm. “Labyrinthe” emer-ged as the result. All in all, a collaborative work achieved, overcoming the distance between its sources. The sound cuts from GRM reached me as set of reflections, like “cadavre exquis”. Fragments in any order, all on CD, sent by post, 7 composers, 7 colleagues sent me 58 tracks of varying lengths in various keys. this continuity inspired me to create a maze-like musical form, in concentric volumes, all thoroughly intertwining with each other. Above all, my contribution is intended to be harmonic. I take great care in attending to any drifting effects occuring with other sounds. A smooth descent for all, in their order of entry into the subterranean: Donato, Geslin, Gayou, Losa, Zanési, Terruggi, Dao.” Pierre Henry

Brunhild FERRARI – Eiko ISHIBASHI – Jim O’ROURKE
“L’Oreille Voleuse”

Persistence of Sound releases a new work by Brunhild Ferrari called »L’oreille Voleuse« (The Thieving Ear). The LP features an extraordinary live reinterpretation by Eiko Ishibashi and Jim O’Rourke, recorded in October 2025 in Paris. “No, without listening at doors, the ear captures noises here and there and unexpected sounds without choice, but remains attentive to the messages of each one picked up over the years. It gathers surprises and impressions, bringing them together in a simple mix. In waking up these ear memories again, which were mostly recorded on magnetic tapes, I am very happy about the collaboration of Eiko Ishibashi and Jim O'Rourke in playing on this mix tape.” Brunhild Ferrari

“Good Thoughts, Bad Thoughts”

Good Thoughts, Bad Thoughts captures the band in full flight during their very first English tour, recorded at The state51 Factory in East London. Until this tour, UK audiences had only witnessed France once before, at Liverpool Psych Fest some years back. This album documents what they've been missing. For this performance, the lineup featured Jérémie Sauvage on bass, Yann Gourdon on electrified hurdy-gurdy, and Cyril Bondi (La Tène, Cyril Cyril) stepping in on drums while longtime member Mathieu Tilly took a well-earned break.

Thomas TILLY
“Birds measuring space”

As a counterpoint to discourses about sound in nature, french sound artist Thomas Tilly continues his research on the use of noise by non humans. Following the noise walls of Codex Amphibia, Birds measuring space focuses on the strange rituals operating by the mysterious Guacharos de Cuevas, and its interpretation by humans and technology. Thomas Tilly (FR) is a sound artist and composer of experimental music. His work is based on field experiments using microphones, loudspeakers, and acoustic analysis instruments. Developing a unique approach to phonography, influenced by biology, anthropology, and sound measurement, his creations, broadcasts, and installations open up a field of listening that extends beyond the naturalist paradigm.

NURSE WITH WOUND
“”Healsgebedda Budgerigar”

A welcome expanded CD release for this album, which sold out very quickly when it was released on vinyl last year. It comes in a full colour 6-panel digipak of heavy gauge card in gloss laminate, with 2 unreleased tracks & an alternative mix of the title track. On Healsgebedda Budgerigar, Nurse With Wound turn memory itself into a delirious tape loop: long, sample‑swollen excursions where pet chatter, phantom TV themes and street detritus melt into a woozy, psychedelic netherworld of half‑remembered sound.
