To interpret her two compositions, Sillons and Reflets, Patricia Bosshard could not have hoped for better than the ONCEIM and the CoÔ ensemble, two groups of which she is also a member as a violinist.
These two ensembles bring together instrumentalists of a very high level, from very diverse musical backgrounds: improvised music, jazz, free jazz, classical and contemporary music, experimental music. The collaboration between the musicians and the composer is organized around playing modes that favor minimalist and innovative forms. The scores allow the musicians to experiment with the proposed material, and to appropriate the form, while highlighting the sound potential of the collective.
“I composed Sillon, a repetitive, bewitching piece, which, in its form, evolves from the individual to the large orchestra, passing by groups and sub-groups gathered by affinities of material, timbre, sound. The composition Reflets is based on harmonics. I redistributed these harmonics within the ensemble, played at different octaves, as notes, as harmonics or as ponticello (bow near the bridge), thus generating new harmonics.” Patricia Bosshard
Born in Switzerland, Patricia Bosshard is a violinist and composer who studied classical music in Montreal, composition and electroacoustics in Geneva, and jazz in Lausanne. She has developed her own language of experimental and improvised music, which she uses in numerous collaborations with musicians, directors and choreographers.
Founded in 2011 at the instigation of pianist Frédéric Blondy, ONCEIM is an orchestra of 34 musicians. ONCEIM is dedicated to contemporary creation. Well known for his interpretations of the most recent works of Éliane Radigue, ONCEIM also played compositions by Stephen O’Malley, Martin Tétreault, Carsten Nicolai, John Tilbury, Peter Ablinger, Jean-Luc Guionnet, Frédéric Blondy, Sébastien Beliah, Bertrand Denzler, Pierre-Antoine Badaroux, Jean-Sébastien Mariage, Jérome Noetinger, Arnaud Rivière. ONCEIM has been in residency since 2011 at the Saint Merry Church (Paris). ONCEIM has played in Europe at the Venice Biennale, at several festivals (Krakow, Utrecht, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Geneva), as well as at festivals in France such as Météo, Densités, Extension, Macval, and the Fondation Cartier.
Created by Félicie Bazelaire, CoÔ is a string ensemble bringing together string players of ONCEIM. CoÔ aims to build new directions in instrumental research, and create a new repertoire based on specific techniques for bowed strings. In 2019, Potlatch has already released a recording of CoÔ: Arc (compositions by Bertrand Denzler).

Pour interpréter ses deux compositions, Sillons et Reflets, Patricia Bosshard ne pouvait espérer mieux que l’ONCEIM et l’ensemble CoÔ, deux formations dont elle est aussi membre en tant que violoniste.
Ces deux ensembles réunissent des instrumentistes de très haut niveau, issus d’horizons musicaux très divers : musique improvisée, jazz, free jazz, musique classique et contemporaine, musique expérimentale. La collaboration entre les musicien·nes et la compositrice s’organise sur des modes de jeu privilégiant des formes minimalistes et innovantes. Les partitions permettent aux musicien·nes d’expérimenter le matériau proposé, et de s’approprier la forme, tout en mettant en relief les potentialités sonores du collectif.
« Avec Sillons, j’ai composé une pièce répétitive, envoûtante, qui, dans sa forme, évolue de l’individu au grand orchestre, en passant par des groupes et sous-groupes réunis par affinités de matériau, de timbre, de son. La composition Reflets s’articule autour des harmoniques que j’ai distribués au sein de l’ensemble, joués à différentes octaves, en tant que notes, en tant qu’harmoniques, ou encore près du chevalet (ponticello), générant ainsi de nouvelles harmoniques.» Patricia Bosshard
Née en Suisse, Patricia Bosshard est une violoniste et compositrice, qui a étudié le classique à Montréal, la composition et l’électroacoustique à Genève, et le jazz à Lausanne. Elle développe son propre langage issu de la musique expérimentale et improvisée, le mettant au profit de nombreuses collaborations avec musicien·ne·s, metteur·e·s en scène et chorégraphes.

Depuis 2011, l’ONCEIM a été en résidence à l’église Saint Merry (Paris). L’orchestre s’est produit en Europe à la Biennale de Venise, dans différents festivals (Cracovie, Utrecht, Stockholm, Copenhague, Genève), ainsi qu’en France aux festivals Météo, Densités, Extension, au Théâtre d’Orléans, au Macval, à la Fondation Cartier, etc.
Créé à l’initiative de Félicie Bazelaire, CoÔ réunit les instrumentistes à cordes de l’ONCEIM. Cet ensemble représente une voix originale dans la recherche instrumentale ainsi que dans la création d’un nouveau répertoire s’appuyant sur des techniques spécifiques pour les cordes frottées. Potlatch a déjà publié un enregistrement de CoÔ en 2019 : Arc (compositions de Bertrand Denzler).
