“Fragments & Ramifications”
Fragments were recorded in 2019 in Piémont-Cévenol and Ramifications in Paris in 2017.
Ollivier Coupille participated in the workshops of Takehisa Kosugi at Sainte Baume in 1979 and 1980 as well as in several of his concerts. Since then he has developed a unique approach to sound connecting circuits and setting up electronic music-making devices. He is using a branch of technology that had developed haphazardly — without music theory — and that seemed to reproduce certain aspects of living things — such as moss and lichen.
In Fragments several oscillators that generate sounds are interconnected inside a constantly evolving electronic “loom.” And Ramifications can only be performed in daylight, as the sound generators are powered by solar cells and natural variations of light play an important role in the process.
