“The deep”
The Deep, a new composition by Kasper T. Toeplitz for the live electronic group Kernel (Abecassis, Toeplitz, Wendling) is an architecture of accumulations of grainy textures, layers of destructured, decomposed and distorted sounds - a long flow of a constant acceleration, freely inspired by the gesture of Pollock’s painting. In its center a fake calm, a slow, sub-bass breathing. As always with Kernel the music is fully pre-composed (and the score can be downloaded from the group’s web page) and is played live - using mostly computers - in real-time synthesis (no samples, sound files nor sequencers) by the three musicians. Between the electronic compositions of Iannis Xenakis or Jean-Claude Eloy and the work of Daniel Menche or Zbigniew Karkowski.

“KERNEL is an ensemble of purely electronic music (no found sounds, no samples, no sound-files), which plays long, fully written compositions - electronic architectures. The musicians mostly play computers as real-time instruments, but some analog devices are used as well. Kernel 2, a composition by K T Toeplitz is a 40 minutes long "study in noises" as the only sources are electronic noises of different colors - from black to blue - and textures, filtred, granulated and mutated; reaching for the fragile moments between pitch and sound, between light and shadow. Musicians of Kernel are Eryck Abecassis, Kasper T Toeplitz & Wilfried Wendling.”
