Yakima’s valley, surrounded by mountains, boasts rare acoustics. “Nadiyaan” (“Rivers”) is a raw, 60-min field recording from Yakima & Naches Rivers, blending nature and industry under freeways—inspired by acoustic ecology pioneers.
“…’Nadiyaan’ – translated from Hindi, simply reads – ‘Rivers’.
Sourced and tracked directly to tape throughout the final winter months of 2025, most significantly though; during the “Last Frost” snowfall & the weeks encompassing the waxing of February’s full “Snow Moon”.
“…Nadiyaan; plays a 60 min tour-de-force of raw, crude, unprocessed in-situ field recordings & organic verte-bruit concrète. Methodically assembled with a carefully fixated patience – each minute unraveling to reveal itself as one cohesive piece – in three transient movements.
It’s here at the geographical confluence of site-specific locations, along the hidden and snowy banks of the Yakima & Naches Rivers under a cobweb of freeways and overpasses; where Rujhaan utilizes the acoustic ecological convergence of sounds from both; natural habitats and modern industry. Invoking the ancestral spirits & energies of long lost Native villages, while irrefutably channeling the naturalist sound works of acoustic ecological pioneers such as Knud Viktor, Jean-Claude Roché and Jean-Yves Bosseur.”
