For their first collaboration as a duo, rather than succumb to the devastating fury that is the hallmark of so-called ‘noise’ music, Michael Morley (electric guitar) and Michel Henritzi (lapsteel) have opted for the open sea, and the interior landscapes with the ghostly strangeness that is usually associated with them. The emergence of embryonic melodies under their fingers never frightens them. On the contrary, it allows them to delve deeply into the contemplative and hypnotic dimensions of listening, through skilful interweaving of constantly shifting masses of sound. Although they conceived Mirrors at a distance from each other, what emerges is a fascinating maelstrom, sculpted over time like a long blast spread over two sides. The first, in the form of effluvia, relays primitive forces in gestation since the appearance of the blues. The second, majestic and devoid of ostentation, explores a succession of stases that could have been extended ad infinitum, so much so that the suspension that constantly postpones the fall abolishes any notion of time.

Pour leur première collaboration en duo, plutôt que de succomber à quelque fureur dévastatrice constitutive des musiques dites « noise », Michael Morley (guitare électrique) et Michel Henritzi (lapsteel) ont préféré le grand large, et les paysages intérieurs à l’étrangeté fantomatique qu’on leur associe généralement. À aucun moment, l’émergence d’embryons de mélodies courant sous leurs doigts ne les effraie. Au contraire, elles leur permettent de sonder en profondeur la dimension contemplative et hypnotique de l’écoute, au fil de savants entrelacs de masses sonores constamment en mouvement. Bien qu’ils aient conçu Mirrors à distance l’un de l’autre, il n’en émerge pas moins un fascinant maelström, sculpté au fur et à mesure comme une longue déflagration repartie sur deux faces. La première, sous forme d’effluves, relaie des forces primitives en gestation depuis l’apparition du blues. Tandis que la seconde, majestueuse et dépourvue de toute ostentation, explore une succession de stases qu’elle aurait pu étendre à l’infini, tant la suspension qui en diffère constamment la chute abolit toute notion de temps.
