Between 2011 and 2019, INA Grm organised a yearly competition, called Banc d’essai. During this period, the jury listened to nearly a thousand works, with an ever-renewed curiosity for what seemed to be the voice of a new generation of creators. Every year, about ten pieces were selected to be performed on the Acousmonium, and it’s on those occasions that all these talents have revealed themselves to us with the most forcefullness. In 2020, as the competition renews itself, we wanted to close this chapter with a record release featuring eighteen works whose depth and sensitivity have particularly moved us, and which, through a remarkable spirit of research and invention, have, each in their own way, contributed to the gradual, stimulating and ongoing transformation of music at large.

Entre 2011 et 2019, l’INA grm organisait chaque année le concours « Banc d’essai » dédié à la découverte de jeunes compositeurs de musiques électroacoustiques et expérimentales venus du monde entier. Au total, près de 1000 pièces ont été écoutées par le jury, avec une curiosité toujours renouvelée pour ce qui lui semblait être la voix d’une nouvelle génération de créatrices et de créateurs. Tous les ans, une dizaine de pièces ont été sélectionnées pour être jouées sur l’Acousmonium de l’INA grm.
L’année 2020 a marqué le début d’une nouvelle époque pour le concours avec la création d’un nouveau prix intitulé « GRM Découvertes ». Pour clore le chapitre « Banc d’essai », l’INA grm édite un coffret de 2 CD avec un livret de 24 pages présentant 18 pièces qui, par un remarquable esprit de recherche et d’invention, auront participé chacune à leur manière, à la lente, passionnante et perpétuelle métamorphose qu’est celle de la musique.
