“Sinter injects vast amounts of oxygen into the room, air swirling and echoing in huge spaces, light shimmering and hazy. In metallurgical terms, sintering is the making of objects from powder and “powdery”, especially with a metallic connotation, isn’t the worst term you could use for much of this music. Field recordings (and, per the sleeve, “domestic recordings”) are mixed with electronics throughout; nary a French horn in sight though I think I pick up a bit of Kamerman’s small clattering devices here and there. Anne Guthrie et Richard Kamerman, enregistrements, composition, improvisation et processings. On avait déjà pu découvrir ces deux artistes sur le label Copy for your records. Une approche du sonore très éloignée de toute question de virtuosité, et rien d’instrumental au sens commun du terme. Il s’agit plutot de composer avec chacun des enregistrements et toujours dans cette limite entre l’acte volontaire et l’anecdote quotidienne. La prise de son (position du micro et choix d’espaces particuliers) participe également de cette distance. Une nouvelle série du label Erstwhile consacrée au travail de jeunes musiciens expérimentaux nord américains travaillant dans un dépassement de la musique électroacoustique. Et comme pour les deux autres, recommandé !!!
